How we check places
Every place on Hound it is checked before it's listed, and each card shows when.
Grade A
The place itself, or the official authority, says dogs are welcome, on a page we opened and read: its own website, menu, FAQ, or social page, or the town, county, or state rules page.
Grade B
At least two independent sources agree, at least one from the last two years, and nothing contradicts them.
General rules
Some places follow a general rule instead of a place-by-place check: public streets and squares under the city's leash law, and outdoor farmers markets, which we treat as fine for leashed dogs unless the market is indoors or says no dogs. We search for any posted ban first, and these are labeled so you know.
Never listed
Anything weaker: one source, only old sources, or sources that disagree.
Rules come from the source
Leash rules, beach hours, and fees come only from the town, county, or state. Vet hours and hotel pet fees come only from the business's own site.
Re-checks
Vets every 3 months. Restaurants and hotels every 6 months. Beach and park rules before each seasonal change. Trails every 6 months and after storms. Safety information yearly.
