Privacy at Hound it
Effective: November 3, 2026
Hound it is a guide to dog-friendly places. We built it so you can use it without telling us who you are.
What we don't collect
- No sign-up and no accounts. We don't ask for your name, email, phone number, or location.
- We don't sell or share personal information, because we don't collect any.
The chat
The chat runs in your own browser and answers from our list of checked places. Your questions aren't sent to us or to anyone else.
To make the site work, your browser keeps two small notes on your own device:
- When you ask a question on one page, the question is held briefly so the chat page can answer it.
- If the chat can't answer a question, the question is saved in your browser so it isn't lost. It stays on your device; we can't see it.
You can clear both by clearing your browser's site data.
Services the site uses
- Fonts: our text styles load from Google Fonts. Like any website request, this lets Google see your device's internet address. Google's privacy policy covers that.
- Map links: "Map" links open Google Maps in a new tab, where Google's privacy policy applies.
- My trip: places you save with the heart, your trip dates, your answers to Build a custom trip (like your dog's name), and your checklist stay in your browser on your device. We can't see them. A trip link you choose to share contains only the list of places and dates.
- Newsletter: if you sign up, your email address and city are stored with our email service, Kit, and used only to send you Hound it emails. We never sell or share them. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Maps: when you open a map, your browser loads the map pictures from OpenStreetMap, which lets them see your device's internet address, like any website. We don't send them anything else.
- Recently viewed: the last few places you opened are remembered in your browser so the home page can show them. We can't see them, and Clear removes them.
- Weather: the current weather and any weather alerts come from the National Weather Service (weather.gov). To show them, your browser asks the weather service for the local forecast, which lets it see your device's internet address. We don't send it anything else.
- Visitor counts: we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are popular. It uses no cookies, doesn't track you across other sites, and doesn't identify you.
- Hosting: the company that hosts this site may keep standard records of visits, such as internet addresses and pages viewed, to keep the site running and secure.
Ads
- We use Google AdSense to show ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies lets Google and its partners serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings.
- You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
- Visitors in places that require it (for example, the European Union or the UK) see a consent message before ad cookies are used.
Children
Hound it is meant for adults planning outings with their dogs. It isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If the way the site handles information changes, for example when ads are added, we'll update this page before the change takes effect.
